Washington Managing Broker License Renewal Requirements
Washington managing brokers renew every two years and must complete 30 clock hours of approved continuing education during each renewal period. Active renewals must include a 3-hour Fair Housing course, and you may carry forward up to 15 excess hours from the previous two-year period.
Continuing education must be completed after you are first licensed as a managing broker. Renewal requirements are handled through the Washington Department of Licensing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Every two years, on the anniversary of your license issue date. You renew through the SecureAccess Washington (SAW) portal or by mail.
30 hours each two-year cycle: a 3-hour Current Issues (Core) course and a 3-hour Fair Housing course, plus 24 elective hours.
The 30-hour requirement is the same. Two things are specific to managing brokers: your hours must be completed after you earned the managing broker license, and you renew your fingerprint background check every six years.
You take the 6-hour Fair Housing course once, then the 3-hour version at each renewal after that. The 6-hour course does not satisfy the later 3-hour requirement.
Yes. The courses are online and self-paced, and Washington places no cap on distance-education hours. The state does require a timing device, so you cannot finish faster than the approved hours.
Renewing after your expiration date adds a penalty. If your license lapses, you can reinstate it within a few years by completing additional CE plus fees; after about three years expired, you reapply.
