**As of June 1, 2022, Substitute Senate Bill 5378 requires education on Fair Housing for all Real Estate Brokers and Managing Brokers for new licensees and renewals.
· DOL will allow Licensees until June 1, 2023, to take the Fair Housing 6-hour course.
· Each subsequent renewal Brokers and Managing Brokers must complete the Washington Real Estate Fair Housing (3hr) course to stay compliant with WA education requirements.
Seat Time: The Washington Real Estate Commission requires a timing device for all online virtual classroom courses to ensure that courses cannot be completed in less time than the approved credit hours. Please note that your course will time out after several minutes of inactivity.
Final Exam: Students are required to demonstrate mastery of the content at certain levels of the course for an online virtual classroom course final exam. A correspondence course has no required quizzes throughout the course, and instead has a final exam passing score requirement of at least 70%.
Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary but are generally 6 months after enrollment date.
Certificate: With few exceptions, online course completion certificates are available for download at course conclusion and posted directly to your student dashboard.
Online Limitations: There is no limit to the number of CE hours that may be completed via distance education.

Washington Broker License Renewal: First Renewal vs. Standard Renewal
- Washington brokers renew their license every two years, on the anniversary of when the license was first issued. How much continuing education you need depends on whether this is your first renewal or a later one.
- Your first renewal is the heavier one. Washington requires 90 hours of CE, completed after your original license date: a 30-hour Advanced Practices course, a 30-hour Real Estate Law course, a 3-hour Current Issues (Core) course, the 6-hour Washington Real Estate Fair Housing course, and 21 elective hours.
- Every renewal after that is a standard renewal, which takes 30 hours of CE every two years: a 3-hour Current Issues (Core) course, a 3-hour Fair Housing course, and 24 elective hours. At least 15 of the 30 hours need to fall within the 24 months before your renewal date, and you can carry forward up to 15 unused hours from the prior cycle. If you are past your first renewal, our standard renewal courses cover this requirement.
- The Fair Housing requirement works in two steps. You take the 6-hour Washington Real Estate Fair Housing course once, then the 3-hour version at every renewal after that. The 6-hour course does not satisfy the later 3-hour requirement.

Renewing after your expiration date adds a penalty fee. If your license lapses, you can reinstate it within a few years by completing 60 hours of CE (including the Real Estate Law course) plus fees and penalties. After about three years expired, you have to reapply. Check the Washington DOL for the steps that fit your situation.
Yes. Rockwell’s renewal courses are online and self-paced, and Washington places no limit on CE hours completed through distance education. The state does require a timing device on online courses, so you cannot finish faster than the approved hours.
